Adding a murder into Muay Thai!

Muay Thai will never be the same again… Eliana and her friends are sucked into the world of amateur sleuthing when a murder occurs at their midnight Muay Thai class.

Yep, that’s right – our cosy group of friends are going all murder-mystery on us! With the first two novels being stories of their growing relationships and the ups-and-downs of love, it’s nice to dip my toe into a brand new situation, letting them experience something a bit grittier and seeing how they cope.

Because that’s what we do, as authors – we take the people in our heads and we put them in a tricky situation and then we pretty much just wait to see what happens.

The idea of writing them into a murder mystery actually came from my Dad, or my Papa as Eliana would say, who was reading – simultaneously – the second Muay Thai book and a very famous cosy murder mystery series (which shall remain nameless).

“I much prefer your group to the group solving crimes in here,” Dad said, demonstrating – of course – absolutely no bias towards his own daughter.

“Oh, don’t be silly. The Muay Thai books are light-hearted – no murders here,” I replied, laughing it off.

But it stuck with me. How would they all react if a crime occurred within their midst? Have things been a bit too easy for them so far?

And so, it happened. I wrote this book in Australia. It was lovely and sunny outside, and koalas were cuddling the trees (genuinely – we were texted by the local ‘Koala Watch’ telling us to keep an eye on them). Kangaroos were pacing up and down the roads at crazy speeds, and the long beaches of Surfers Paradise beckoned from a 15 minute drive away.

So I sat inside, headphones in, and wrote for many, many hours.
